THE SKIING

Bad Gastein Austria, has an excellent choice of skiing on five very different mountains. Two are interlinked and the other three give full and varied skiing and are accessed by a short bus ride which is included in the lift pass.

Ski the mountainous area of Sportgastein which has runs that are surrounded by glaciers or ski through the trees at the very pretty and attractive Dorf Gastein, which links over the top of the ridge down to Grossarl.

The linked areas of the Stubnerkogel and Schlossalm keep even the most adventurous skier happy for a week, whilst the smaller area of Graukogel offers steep sheltered tree skiing, which has the added appeal of snow cannon on the lower slopes. It is also the site of a number of important ladies down hill races, its certainly good enough for them.

The welcoming and authentic mountain restaurants offer traditional Austrian food at reasonable prices with really large helpings. The mountain huts have that unique mountain atmosphere that only this country can offer.

OFF PISTE

Sportgastein has big opportunities from both of the faces that do not have a lift. The exit from the south is down to the base of the lifts and the north face with its over 5000 foot vertical is exited by the complementary bus service that takes you back to the lifts.

Its not hard skiing providing the runs have been already skied. The powder bowls beyond the the Hohe Schart are excellent, beyond the Jungalm chair the north facing slopes keep the snow soft. There are quite a number of other steep places we can tell you about, guide recommended.

THE VILLAGE

Bad Gastein is a traditional spa town and has been well maintained and preserved so is a good contrast to the ugly high rise concrete resorts of other countries.

The thermal baths are quite unique with the biggest jacuzzi. Our accommodation is right in the middle of the upper town, which is near to the lifts and so you have quick access to the many shops, bars and clubs. You can stay up as long as you want in this resort and you won't be bored.
