Best chalet-hotel in Alpe d'Huez
THE SKIING
From here you have a big choice of including the Sarenne which is the longest Black run in Europe of over 11 kms and the world renowned tunnel which will impress the most fearless skier.
The satellite areas of all of Auris, Oz and Vaujany offer excellent destination to give a real feeling of ski touring using blue, red or black runs. Go for the day, enjoy the area and then comfortably get home as its all excellently interlinked run's.
For the novice skier Alpe d'Huez has one of the best and most impressive blue and green runs all clustered round the village itself. These meander safely back to the start of the lifts. Unlike many French resorts the restaurants here are inexpensive and offer traditional food in a generally welcoming atmosphere, a number have become real firm favorites with Ski Miquel guests, not just because they are good value, wonderfully located, but the reception is as good as anywhere. OFF PISTE
There are many possibilities as variations of the Sarene, instead of doing the normal long run, fork off to the left and there are many possibilities, the Chateau Noir, or the Com de Loup. You can get five fabulous off piste runs in a day if you use the helicopter for a just extra £25. However, we must stress that to have a save day and to get the very best out of it we do recommend the use of the guide

SKI FACTS
THE VILLAGE The Village - Alpe d'Huez certainly does not merit the broken concrete award for an ugly resort. There are very few high rise and the ones that are tucked away beyond where we stay. There is authentic traditional French village in the center of Alpe d'Huez just below our Chalet-hotel. People do live here all the year round and so there is a good atmosphere.
At least five of the bars are now English owned and run and provide a good combination of English music and ambience. You can drink and dance and do various other things in Alpe d'Huez all night long if you are not too worried about skiing next day.
As you would expect in a French resort eating out is excellent. We consider the prices to be reasonable, though as always the wine seems a lot more than it should be, remembering of course that they do grow the stuff.
